Jackie James

Meet Jackie James. She’s a 3rd grade pupil at Kendeja Public School, located in Montserrado County in northwestern Liberia. She lives with her Mom and younger sister Blessing, who also attends Kendeja Public School. Things can be tough for her Mom—Jackie explains—who sells hair and soft drinks to take care of her children.

Jackie and Blessing have to trek many miles to get to school every day. However, she makes sure she never misses a day because she’s a very eager student. Her favorite subject is maths because it’s “fun” going to lessons, she smiles.
